Meet a Joomler - Sigrid Gramlinger

This month we had the chance to get to know in depth a long term volunteer, Sigrid Gramlinger, from Austria. Sigrid is a known contributor, having served in several teams and capacities, especially in the Production Department.

A new place to share ideas and feedback to improve

In a community-led Project, it's crucial to collect feedback, comments and proposals from all the volunteers and shape the strategy and the direction accordingly. And if this is really easy for what concerns the "software" being completely Open Source and available to anybody who wants to submit a Pull Request or propose a Request for Comments, the same it's not so immediate when it comes to the organization, the teams and the leadership.

Leadership Interviews: David Opati Aswani

This month we are glad to interview David Opati Aswani. He is at his second term as the Events Department Coordinator, the department in Joomla that works with Joomlers across the globe to spread the word about the project through local events, groups, activities, seminars and much more.

Interview with Justine Ayebale Abunyanga, Vicepresident

After Justine Ayebale Abunyanga got her Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, she started working as a web designer. First, she made hardcoded HTML websites, but when she discovered Joomla, her life suddenly became a whole lot easier. Today, she co-directs the Ugandese IT-company Webstar Uganda. Justine had been an active member of the local community for a while when she decided to run for VP, a role she considers as a broad one: “This role requires that you represent everyone.”

The August Issue

August 2020 marked an important milestone in the Joomla's story.
In fact, on August 17, the Community celebrated the 15th birthday of our beloved CMS and Open Source Project.

The Joomla! Identity Portal

On May 16, 2020, the Privacy Compliance Team announced the release of the Joomla! Identity Portal, a new website that is meant to serve as the home for all Joomlers’ personal data and as Single Sign On service to access all the *.joomla.org websites. Read more …

Getting extensions ready for Joomla 4 - Marco Biagioni (J! Extensions Store)

While the development of the new major version of Joomla, the 2nd most used CMS worldwide, is in progress, the Joomla Community Magazine is continuing interviewing Joomla extensions developers to understand their own path towards Joomla 4. This month we had the chance to interview Marco Biagioni, the man behind J! Extensions Store, a renowned brand in the Joomla sphere, with its flagship JSitemap Pro extension.

The July Issue

July is the month of the Semi-Annual Members Meeting of Open Source Matters and the restart of the election cycle with the Call for Manifestos for half of the Board roles.

But, besides the "politics" of the Project, a lot more is happening: Joomla 4 Beta 2 has been released and the Community is being busy with continuing the successful "Bugs & Fun @Home" initiative, that is the right opportunity for the contributors to spend time together, virtually, working to improve the best Joomla version ever.

The June Issue

Many things happened in the Joomla sphere from the previous issue of the Magazine.

The major news is that Joomla 4 Beta 1 has been finally released! Kudos to the Release Leader, the developers and every single contributor, either with code or tests, that worked on this amazing step forward in the new major version development process.

The May Issue

May is about to end and it's being a period very rich of news in the Joomla sphere.

Our passionate volunteers are working to make the Joomla 4 Beta release happen within this month, as well as the Community is going to gather virtually for 24 hours at JandBeyond on May 30th.

Joomla 3.10 and the Update Checker

Joomla 4 is getting closer with the Beta version expected for the end of this month, but, at the same time, Joomla's contributors are working hard to develop another important release: Joomla 3.10.

“A Joomler’s Story”, get to know our volunteers

We are living in a weird period, in which we are obliged to practice “social distancing” and we cannot crowd together to meet or get things done. We saw many local and international events cancelled due to the pandemic emergency. And in this period, everyone spends more time to reflect and re-evaluate the importance of many things that we claimed were “normal” for so long.

In this edition of the Community Magazine, we wanted to put people first, remembering that Joomla exists only thanks to “its people” and we wanted to take a moment to appreciate them and their contributions.

Meet a Joomler: Christiane Maier-Stadtherr

Christiane is a hidden gem within the Joomla Community. She is actively involved in making Joomla 4 accessible, as a member of the Accessibility Team. She also worked on the new Workflow feature that will be shipped in the new version of Joomla.

A new beginning for the Community Magazine

It has been a long time since the last issue of the Joomla Community Magazine, despite the huge work of the volunteers who worked to refactor the website and create a solid foundation for the Magazine. We are finally happy to announce that the Joomla Community Magazine is back!

The Joomla Privacy Journey

The Joomla Privacy Journey started back in November 2017 when the Board of Open Source Matters, Inc. realized the need to ensure compliance with GDPR and Privacy regulations. A new working group was formed and since then, several volunteers helped the Project to audit its internal Privacy and take actions to reach compliance.
